Norfolk & MFUGE

Just to give you all a heads up, if you are planning to go with us to Norfolk you need to be at Old Powhatan by 2:30pm so we can load up and head to Red Lane. Please continue to be in prayer as we prepare to minister to the many children and youth down in Norfolk.

As for those going to MFUGE Philadelphia, your final payment is due this Wednesday July 2nd. I handed out a sheet on Sunday explaining how much each one of you owed and when the parents meeting was scheduled for (July 13th after the second service in the youth room).

If you have any questions regarding these two mission trips please contact either Linda Adcock or myself (Derrick) by way of phone before we both leave for Norfolk this Saturday July 5th.

Praise Focus

I've decided to post one Psalm per week in order for you to focus on the wonders of the Lord and to use them as prayers. It is so awesome to read them and think of how relevant they are to our lives. Whether that is by personal struggles as seen in David's own life or the mighty praises cried out to God for His wondrous mercy and steadfast righteousness, we are continuously shown the faithfulness of God. I pray that God will open your eyes to see Him for who He really is and to understand how great He is for the sacrifice of His own Son on the Cross. If you remember what I mentioned on Wednesday night, I had said that our worship should be an overflow of our love for God. This overflow comes from personal devotions, consistent prayer, and the realization that God is Mighty in His creation, Mighty in His righteousness, and Mighty in His saving grace.

Psalm 40
God Sustains His Servant.
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.

1I waited patiently for the LORD;
And He inclined to me and heard my cry.
2He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay,
And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.
3He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God;
Many will see and fear
And will trust in the LORD.
4How blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust,
And has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood.
5Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders which You have done,
And Your thoughts toward us;
There is none to compare with You
If I would declare and speak of them,
They would be too numerous to count.
6Sacrifice and meal offering You have not desired;
My ears You have opened;
Burnt offering and sin offering You have not required.
7Then I said, "Behold, I come;
In the scroll of the book it is written of me.
8I delight to do Your will, O my God;
Your Law is within my heart."
9I have proclaimed glad tidings of righteousness in the great congregation;
Behold, I will not restrain my lips,
O LORD, You know.
10I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart;
I have spoken of Your faithfulness and Your salvation;
I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great congregation.
11You, O LORD, will not withhold Your compassion from me;
Your lovingkindness and Your truth will continually preserve me.
12For evils beyond number have surrounded me;
My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to see;
They are more numerous than the hairs of my head,
And my heart has failed me.
13Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me;
Make haste, O LORD, to help me.
14Let those be ashamed and humiliated together
Who seek my life to destroy it;
Let those be turned back and dishonored
Who delight in my hurt.
15Let those be appalled because of their shame
Who say to me, "Aha, aha!"
16Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;
Let those who love Your salvation say continually,
"The LORD be magnified!"
17SinceI am afflicted and needy,
Let the Lord be mindful of me.
You are my help and my deliverer;
Do not delay, O my God.

HEADS UP!!!

Don't forget about our Ministry Saturday:

We will be hiding the easter eggs for the children around 9am and give help to anyone who needs a hand that morning. From there we will head to Maymont Park in Richmond to hand out Gospel tracts and share the love of Christ. Also, we will help minister with Georgie over at the nursing home and run various activities. Plan on bringing money for lunch and a permission slip if you do not get one Wednesday night. We will leave for Richmond at 11am and get back around 4:30pm. Please begin to pray over the people that we will encounter and that their hearts will be open to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Devotional Thought for the Day

This past weekend a couple of us college kids went to the Passion Conference in D.C. and were completely mind blown. I walked away from the conference with the song "mighty to save" stuck in my head. I felt it necessary to share with you all the power of this song and how true it is for us to see Jesus as the Mighty King who has, who is, and who will work wonders in our lives if we stay faithful to Him. To think of God coming down as a human in Jesus Christ, then enduring all the pain inflicted on His body is just unimaginable. Yet, through His pain and death Jesus Christ rose and conquered the grave defeating death and sin. As the song plays I want you to meditate on the words and really give God the glory for giving you life in Christ Jesus. He is the author of our lives and the perfecter of our faith. Praise Him for what He has done and will continue to do in our lives. God is Mighty to Save and there is no feat He cannot do. Pray for faithfulness in the cross.

When Does Revival Start?

So many times we get caught up in the ideas of how to bring revival to our churches. There are plenty of studies done about true revival and more creative ways to get people to love God with all their heart. But when you come down to it, there is nothing that can give you a sincere heart for God other than His Word and understanding who God really is. If we want a personal revival we must look inside ourselves and see what exactly we are filling our souls with. Whether that be money, material things, social status, etc., nothing can compare to the awesome God who gave us Jesus Christ on the Cross. As the song plays, try and focus on the words that Ross King sings and accept that we must put God back on His throne and fully come to grips with the fact that we need Him over anything else this world can offer up. Only then will we be able to have a true revival within ourselves. Our hearts will be broken, our mind will be open to the Word, and it is at that point that God will build us up.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!

For those that don't know already, I love football and what better way to celebrate the biggest game of the year than by having our youth football game, family chili-cook off, and watch the game on a large projection screen with other brothers and sisters in Christ. Plus, this is going to be a great chance for you to bring along your friends so that they can hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The party kicks off around 3:30pm at Powhatan High School with our youth football game and continues at 5pm in Old Powhatan's fellowship hall with the chili cook-off. Bring your appetites and game faces because this party is going to rock!
